“Charlie got buried in installments
As Frankie’s just left hangin’ from an old oak tree
And that old Kona moon sheds a tear In the night
As the Escatoe just keeps runnin’ free...”
This piece Is based on a murder ballad my father, Sam Dalton, wrote about the hanging of Frances “Frankie” Silver In Morgantown, NC, on July 12, 1833. She was found guilty of axe-murdering her husband, Charles Silver, and the circumstances surrounding the event have long been debated.
