Shed antlers, broomcorn, twine, racoon skull, dried flowers
6x24 inches
2025
This duo of brooms embodies the opposing forces of vitality and mortality, while revealing the beauty that resides in both. Crafted entirely by hand using a non-electric process and traditional Appalachian broom making techniques, each piece incorporates natural and found materials from Southwest Virginia. Shed antlers, processed broomcorn, nylon twine, dried flowers, and a raccoon skull discovered by my eleven year old son. This pair of antler whisks honors the deep-rooted resourcefulness of Appalachian craft, blending functional form with symbolic storytelling to reflect the cycles that shape our lives and landscapes.
