Benjamin's Regrets

To simplify things greatly, Animal Farm's donkey character Benjamin is a pessimist who takes no action (until it's too late) and loses his friend and many of his rights. He is aware of the trouble on the farm and is smart enough to see where it leads. Similarly, the current-day Democratic Party, whose symbol is also the donkey, chooses the status quo over great change. Unfortunately, when one chooses to do nothing, it is still a choice, usually to the opposition's benefit.
